Engineer Gu Chen travels to ancient times to save his comatose daughter, becoming the Prime Minister of Great Qian. Over five years, he uses iron-fisted tactics to help Empress Shen Qingjun ascend the throne. However, driven by her obsession with her original body, Gu Linchuan, Shen conspires with the Imperial Preceptor to expel Gu Chen's soul. It is revealed that Gu Linchuan is the son of a traitor; upon returning to power, he allies with the Northern Barbarians, forces the death of loyalists, and plunges Great Qian into internal strife and external threats. When Shen realizes the truth, the nation is on the brink of collapse. At the moment of her despair and suicide, Gu Chen travels again to gain points to save his daughter. He regains control of the government, uses modern weapons and medicine to repel enemies and eradicate plagues, and ultimately leads Great Qian out of the crisis as the Empress repents and considers stepping down.
