Lake Demon
Villager Liu Dayong ignores the taboo legend of the Widow Pit and insists on fishing, only to have his caught fish bitten in half by a massive shadow in the lake. The well-meaning blind man Sun warns him that he has broken the village's taboo, but Liu Dayong refuses to believe in superstition. He brings a fishing net to try to catch the shadow, but the net is torn apart by the creature. Afterward, bad luck strikes Liu Dayong's home continuously; eerie cries echo through the courtyard at night, and a calf is dragged away by the shadow that has come ashore. While chasing it, Liu Dayong stabs the creature with a harpoon, discovering only strange green blood and huge scales.
