Mountain Baby's Cry

In the 1970s, hunter Wu Erlang from Baibu Village breaks his family's curse by venturing into the forbidden rear mountain of Baifu Peak. The Wu family fell victim to the taboo 'Do Not Step on the Rear of Baifu Peak,' causing male members to develop face-like sores on their chests that prove fatal upon entering the restricted area, leading to the deaths of his father and brothers. While investigating, Wu Erlang suspects his sister-in-law Jin Qiaolian and butcher Pan Qing of plotting against him to steal the blood of a gazelle, believed to cure the sores, resulting in his repeated ambushes in the rear mountain. He eventually discovers his brother's remains and the truth in a cave: the two conspirators murdered his brother to seize the inheritance, while the curse was actually a hereditary tumor. With justice served and the condition treatable by modern medicine, the story reveals the theme of respecting nature and believing in science.
